Born to be OLD...
my day in a time warp at Harley Davidson with Dr. Laura….
This is almost 2008. You would think humans would have evolved beyond war. But this is not the case. There are pockets of people who actually prefer war over peace or who don’t have a clue how or who to fight. If I am attacked, I’ll fight to the death, but I won’t pick on someone just because he’s weak or poor or he scares me. That’s what the USA did when we invaded Iraq..a small poor desert country. It’s nothing to brag about.
Now, on to the fundraiser..actually, a teeny weeny war rally.
THE GOOD: there were some cool bikes, an old helicopter and some good music and food..and one or two cute Harley girls..and no booze!
The BAD: there was something very sad about the whole event. I’ve never seen a less spirited group of folks trying so hard to look cool and belong to something. There was so much leather, tattoos and noise..it looked like a Halloween party! These folks need a lot of attention. One hairy guy from 1974 had a ”God Bless Our Troops” tee shirt on. There were only about 50 people there..if that many! So much for NewsPress PR!

I read in the NewsPress that Dr. Laura would give a speech at 12:30 PM about Operation Family Fund..she shows up at 1:15 PM….she says a few preachy words ..”our troops fight in Iraq so we can have fun here”..or something similar..although it appeared no one was listening..

Dr. Laura looks at me with Lust in her Eyes either that or she was trying to channel Evel Knievel!
That is the gist of her misunderstanding…our troops don’t fight so we can have fun..they fight because they are in the service and sometimes get sent to the wrong places..America needs to start owning up to that fact and work to end the occupation...
THE UGLY: Actually, Laura’s not as ugly as I thought.. she was clad in leather and giant sunglasses..her jeans fit rather well.. SEXY! She saw me taking a pic and started to unbutton.. check it out..WOW!
I guess we’ll continue to play little patriot war games until we get a new, smarter president… so here’s looking at you, old kid..
More pics from Dr. Laura’s Traveling Sideshow!

the Preacher...

her new scooter!

the Dunk Tank looked more like Dunk Bucket!
Is this part of the Motorcycle Toy Run? Dude, it was a big success.

No HG..
the Saturday event was separate..the TOY RUN was on Sunday and it was a huge success with over 700 bikers big and small gathering on Santa Claus Lane. It was a success because it wasn't political..I'll even do little story on it

Dr. Laura is busy helping the wounded and you have a problem with that? She has joined with Mike Cash at the Department of Defense and you think they are war propagandists? You don't make sense.
They support the troops.
The NewsPress could have done a better job to promote a Department of Defense charity. If the public knew more about these dedicated workers, the nonsense about a rally would stop.

Nic.. I’m skeptical…
I pay taxes therefore I support the troops and the occupation.. my taxes should also support the VETERANS!
The folks who are serious about helping the troops are holding the VA and Bush Administration accountable for not doing their jobs.
“Today it's clear to many veterans that the Bush administration and Republicans in Congress think of them on other days of the year besides Veterans Day. They're thinking of veterans as they work to cut off VA healthcare. They're thinking of veterans when they refuse to address lingering health problems from the first Gulf War. They're thinking of veterans when they block full retirement and disability benefits. And they're thinking of veterans when Bush decides, yet again, not to attend a soldier's funeral or pay a visit to those who are recovering from injuries at Walter Reed Army Medical Center just a few miles from the White House. “
Dr. Laura is a sideshow trying to stay relevant by seeking publicity for her patriotism, but“false patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel”! Is she trying to end the war? Is she working to demand the veterans are guaranteed benefits? Of course not!
Deputy Defense Secretary Gordon England needs to explain to the American people why Dr. Laura’s son, Deryk, is still in the military after discovering his dishonorable conduct. Mike Cash could ask him the same question.
Bottom line, the military is not a private enterprise, so support-the-troops-feel-good private fundraisers are mostly political.
Taxpayers/voters should demand competent leadership and a government that takes care of the members of the Armed Services!

Yes, those young republicans are being raised to be all that they can be: USELESS!

Sonny
Healthy skepticism I like and you make good points.
I pay taxes and support the troops. The war in Iraq has ended. Bush was right to pressure Iran. We need more troops in Afghanistan and we win again.
I only know what the NewsPress TV video said. Mike Cash might be able to tell you more about the Department of Defense and his teaming with Dr. Laura to raise extra money for the wounded families. He works for the Department of Defense and would know about auditors.
All I know is she is passionate about getting your money for her cause, this helps the war effort and keeps the taxpayers expense down. You might want to thank her, she's saving us money. In turn we can give a part of those savings to Operation Family Fund. I use to give to the USO, but not now. Mike Cash heads Operation Family Fund and they help families until taxpayer money arrives. I don't have the financial breakdown, you must trust what Mike Cash and Dr. Laura tell you. Families get $2,000 to $10,000 each. Is that cash for all expenses or only medical? I see photos of soldiers without limbs but I haven't heard of a full accounting.

This didn't fit in one comment....
Over the next 10 years OFF will give $250,000,000.00. Dr. Laura raised $530,000.00 at her Disney Hotel birthday fundraiser, all$530,000.00 going to wounded families. Dr. Laura is also married to a doctor, they know of the best healthcare help for veterans. The government is already too large. The Department of Defense and Dr. Laura are a good team. I do have a few questions. What was the expense to put on the Dr. Laura Harley-Davidson Operation Family Fund fundraiser? Who paid for it? How much was raised? How much did the wounded get? Who audits?
Dr. Laura is passionate and proud of her son. I don't know what he did or didn't do. I'm told it was one of his friends. Dr. Laura's son would do the right thing if it was his doing. He was accused of dumb behavior, he's too smart for that.
How do you know Dr. Laura is not working for veteran benefits? Maybe she believes they will get all they need through the charity of Americans like Bill O'Reilly and Dr. Laura.

Nic..did you see the pic of Deryk holding a gun in his mouth and giving a “thumbs up” while enlisted? I don’t think his friends made him do it! If Dr. Laura professes him to be a soldier and a man, he needs to take responsibility for his actions, not rely on mommy to cover things up.
Iraq is not our enemy. We invaded them. America has already lost..we owe Iraq an apology and financial help to rebuild. The only winning situation is bringing Bin Laden to justice and working to break up terror networks. Despite Iraq and Bush, I’m sure we are doing all we can to seek and destroy the real threat
O’Reilly?! He hides behind Rupert Murdoch’s money, pays a woman off to keep her quiet about his sexual harassment of her and writes books about how to raise children..he’s a nut! I think his show is funny but I wouldn’t trust him with a dog..
I’m sure you are sincere and raising money for the troops is fine, but after five years in Iraq, no end in sight, and the massive debt Bush has rung up, you may have to borrow money from China to raise money for American troops!
