San Pedro, CA.. The San Pedro Eastview Little League field has seen generations of young ballplayers play ball, their spirits high and their uniforms stained with grass and dirt. The field in San Pedro is owned by the bakery next door, who leased the field to the Little League for a dollar a year. Subsequent owners honored the agreement until TARGET bought the store and lot. Now, they want to kick the kids off the field and build another TARGET store! Outrageous! We have ENOUGH TARGETS..they are everywhere, filling your house with stuff you don't need. Is this the message we want to send to young people..that money is more important than they are? NO! The kids in San Pedro are more important! They need the field. TARGET should find a way to keep things as they are..do whatever it takes..otherwise BOYCOTT TARGET STORES!!

Andy's claim to fame is doing what Willie (and other rich folks) tell him to do, throwing tantrums at supervisor hearings while the three amigos, Firestone, Gray and Centeno cheer him on. For that, Wendy gave him a radio show!

Listen Travis, you nitwit, Sara McCune has got more class in her little pinkie than you, Wendy, phony Dr. Laura or Nipper could ever muster in your lifetimes.

The David Horowitz Freedom Center will honor former Montecito Village Fourth Parade Grand Marshal and auto racing superstar Andy Granatelli at its first annual Santa Barbara retreat, scheduled from March 30-April 1 at the Four Seasons Biltmore Hotel.

“We want to pay tribute to Andy,” says Freedom Center President David Horowitz, “because he’s a patriot as well as a sports legend.” The tribute dinner begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 30. Granatelli will be introduced by his Third District Supervisor Brooks Firestone.

“It is wonderful to be honored by such a great organization,” Granatelli said. “It is doubly wonderful to be honored in my own hometown at an event where some of the most serious issues facing our country will be discussed.”

Then they tell readers not to engage in a fundamental American right to protest! To justify the gambling scourge, they cite all the money they have given back to the community! Gee..thanks! I don't trust people who brag about how much money they have!!

The journal Public Library of Science Medicine is publishing a special series of articles devoted to the practice of "diseasemongering": when pharmaceutical companies invent diseases, or market cures for benign conditions, in order to sell more drugs. The Times, reporting on the special issue, writes that:

Other minor problems that are a normal part of life, such as symptoms of the menopause, are also becoming increasingly “medicalised”, while risk factors such as high cholesterol levels or osteoporosis are being presented as diseases in their own right, according to the editors.

Anonymous bloggers who criticize the government and express pro-democracy views are being arrested, charged with "inciting subversion," convicted (sometimes based on evidence provided by Yahoo), and handed prison sentences of up to ten years. The bloggers who fall victim are viewed by the American-based company as unfortunate casualties of a sticky situation, in which Western Internet providers must abide by Chinese laws in order to do business in the country. Yahoo isn't alone - as Wired notes, Google's China search engine blocks access to sites the government deems objectionable, Microsoft's Chinese blogging service contains filters that prohibit words like "freedom" and "democracy" from blog titles, and Cisco supplies the internet equipment needed to create the country's so-called "Great Firewall" that blocks Chinese citizens from viewing websites about Tibet and Tiananmen Square.

The first ruling from the NLRB in the NewsPress vs. the Teamsters case has been handed down. NLRB

It is quite a read and a look into the mental state of those in charge of the paper. The administrative judge had some keen observations of Trav, basically saying he made up stories to try to discredit the Teamsters and those NewsPress employees involved in the union effort. In other words, he lied on the witness stand! and he's in cahoots with Wendy and Nipper!

Wendy fired most of the reporters before the ruling, and that will be the subject of the next hearing.. her illegal firings.

My advice to her: SAIL AWAY on your yacht with Nipper, Travis and Dr. Laura. Find an island and buy it. Turn the nEWSpRESS over to people with some vision and backbone, and spend the rest of your days forgetting your odious stay in Santa Barbara... and don't let masses of seaweed foul your anchor...

"Dr." Laura's back and she's ranting again in her latest News-Press column: The Cowardice of Anonymity. This time she complains about all the anonymous, cowardly bloggers out there who keep outsmarting her and Boss McCaw.

She continually implies she's the one with the character, conscience and courage! This is more evidence of her neurotic need to feel superior to others. She says: "I disdain media outlets which permit anonymity. If their words aren't worth standing behind, they aren't worth being heard or read." The funniest part is that the NewsPress keeps using anonymous quotes in their full page ads addressing the purported bias in the newsroom and smearing the ex-reporters!

The nature of blog posting is instant ideas, not identities..if you want to see your name in print, write a LETTER-to-the EDITOR..but make sure you write between the lines otherwise it won't be printed, it'll be censored!

Bright casino lights will cast dark shadows on Indian reservations

THE allure of big money gambling on Indian reservations ended for me when my father collapsed from a heart attack.

At 3 in the morning. On the floor of a casino operated by our own tribe.

You will hear more such stories as gambling halls multiply across Native America -- particularly in California, which soon will be burgeoning with tribal casinos thanks to Proposition 1A. The federal government this month formally approved 58 tribal gaming compacts sanctioned by that initiative, which permits slot machines on Indian land in the state.

Commentators and lawmakers have bemoaned the social and economic problems that Las Vegas-style gambling will bring to California. But few people, including tribal leaders, have examined the devastating toll that the casino culture takes on American Indians.

They should.

These supposed engines of self-sufficiency often create hardship for reservation families, as the casino floors draw in more of our parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and siblings. Tribal gamblers end up robbing themselves, financially and emotionally, by frequenting their own establishments.

My fellow tribe members and I own two casinos in Minnesota -- filled with slot and video poker machines, blackjack tables and other slick games to take quarters and dollars from your pockets.

Remember your ATM and credit cards. The more money you bring, the more we make. Those are the only sure bets at our casinos.

Wendy's Bizarre Full Page Ads

THE News-Press is obviously in distress, so they should hang their American Flag upside down!

Almost daily, the News-Press runs a full page ad explaining the meaning of certain, hand-picked words and/or phrases. Then they use these words to support a claim against their perceived enemies. To date, most of the contents have been complaints about the evil Teamsters and ex-employees. It is hard to deny you are biased when you run a full page ad everyday showcasing your prejudice!

Most people like a good fight. It is the competitive nature of our culture. How we fight is another matter. Shall we duel with pistols..back to back they faced each other, drew their swords and shot each other; or shall we have a war of words.."how dare you speak to me that way!".. "How dare I?"..." I dare!"; Shall we get others to fight for us.." I'm gonna sue your ass!"; or shall we not fight and give up?

Now, the case of the News-Press is an on-going conflict..a class war pitting workers against wealthy management. Tactics have been creative and you can see the fighting style of the combatants as the story unfolds. Our fighting ability says a lot about our passion for life. So how do you fight? Who will win this war among the media folks (which has become our war, too). I don't know, but may the best pugilist win!

The NLRB Ruling: News-Press vs Teamsters

I talked with Tony Bisceglia at NLRB Region #31 and asked about the rulings that were due in February. He said the Admin. Judge is still working on it. There actually is no time frame for when it will be handed down, but said they all recognize how important it is!

A Very Good Evening.... with Dr.Judith Orloff

Well, just back from Judith's talk and it was fun! The drive back from the theater was lovely and cool with mesquite aroma filling the air. I was aglow! The Lobero was packed with some really nice folks..lots of freaks, man, lots of freaks..I went alone and a beautiful woman sat next to me. Why does this always make my friggin' stomach growl?? The Lobero is a beautiful theater, but the seats are too closely packed..I couldn't stretch my legs!

The evening started with some drum music from John Densmore (the DOORS drummer, man!) and the big guy playing the oud. Then Judith came out and sat on a chair between them. "FOLLOW YOUR INTUITION" is her message, as linear thinking gets us into a lot of trouble! " Protest Everything" she says..She was pretty low key but playful with the crowd and always direct. She led a "question and answer" segment. After Densmore asked, jokingly, "When's the next big earthquake?"... being an intuitive, Judith mentioned that mother nature has some big surprises in store for us, there was some nervous laughter from the crowd. She said.."I can't always bring good news!"

The 15 minute break was interesting. The lobby was ABUZZ and glowing with activity, while inside the theater it was quiet and subdued. Someone mentioned this to Judy and she said it's all the same energy, at different levels, and try not to judge it.

A few hours with a very bright woman was a nice way to spend a Monday eve. Her workshops are more intense, and I hope folks are catching on to what she's got to say! Good energy all around..thanks Judith!
